Apple iPhone 6 now available on Flipkart for Rs 21,999; but should you care?
Owning an iPhone in India has never been this easy, especially if you do not mind buying one that is a generation or two old. It is quite a common sight these days to find older iPhones at tempting prices on various e-commerce sites. The reason we bring this up today is because Flipkart is offering the Apple iPhone 6 for only Rs 21,999 as a part of its Father’s Day celebrations offer. But the question here is, should you care about this deal?
First, let’s take a closer look at the deal on Flipkart. The Rs 21,999 price tag is only applicable on the iPhone 6 16GB space grey variant, so it is not that you are spoilt for choices. What makes this deal interesting is that there is an exchange bonus of up to Rs 15,000, which could potentially bring the price of the phone down to Rs 6,999. Other deals include an extra five percent discount (Rs 250) for Axis Bank Buzz credit cardholders. Tempting though it may seem, you should not fall for this. Hear us out.
For one, the iPhone 6 was any way retailing at around the Rs 25,000 mark before on Flipkart, so it is not really a huge discount. Secondly, the 32GB variant is on sale on Flipkart for just Rs 4,000 more at Rs 25,999. When you take into consideration the kind of content one consumes these days, you will realize that 16GB is far from sufficient, and start seeing through is supposed deal.
But what makes this deal not worth your consideration is ironically another Apple smartphone — the iPhone SE. Lately, the iPhone SE has been available on e-commerce sites with a price tag as low as Rs 19,999 for the 16GB variant. The 32GB and 64GB variants, on the other hand, are available at Rs 21,999 and Rs 27,490 respectively. When pitted against each other, the only advantage that the iPhone 6 has over the iPhone SE is the screen size. The latter is actually an iPhone 6s in disguise, which invariably makes it better than the iPhone 6.

To put this into perspective, here’s a look at the specifications and features of both the devices. The Apple iPhone 6 comes with a 4.7-inch Retina HD display, a 64-bit A8 chip under the hood alongside an M8 Motion co-processor and 1GB RAM. The rest of the specifications include an 8-megapixel iSight camera at the back, 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera on the front, and a 1,810mAh battery. On the software front, it can be updated to the latest iOS 11.
The Apple iPhone SE, on the other hand, comes with a 4-inch display, and under the hood is a newer 64-bit A9 processor paired with a Motion co-processor and 2GB of RAM. The rest of the specifications include a 12-megapixel iSight camera at the back, 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera at the front, and a 1,624mAh battery. On the software front, the iPhone SE can also be updated to the latest iOS 11.
When you look at the feature set, it is abundantly clear which smartphone will last longer. If screen size is not a big concern, the iPhone SE makes a whole lot more sense to buy than the iPhone 6. If that wasn’t convincing enough, Flipkart is offering a similar exchange offer with the iPhone SE 32GB, which could potentially bring the price tag down to Rs 6,999.
